cabin rules

We love hosting guests at our property! We are short-term rental guests as well as hosts, and we have no interest in micromanaging, pestering, or nickel-and-diming you.

We have put a lot of thought, hard work, and love into this place, and we go to great lengths to ensure you have a relaxing stay without us bugging you or your guests.

These guidelines help us sleep at night, so thank you for taking the time to learn more about our rules.

Within 48 hours of booking, we require:
1️⃣ a card on file to authorize a security hold of $500 during your stay,
2️⃣ a signed rental agreement, and

🏔️ Our Mountain Home

The home is in a mountain valley renowned for its snowfall, and certain services may be unavailable for reasons beyond our control. For example, we lose power and internet a few times a year; sometimes, it can be days before these services are restored. In 2021, winter storms led to Caltrans closing the interstate for almost a week around Christmas.

Please keep in mind that we will do all that we can to help, but these situations are beyond our control and are an inherent risk associated with mountain life. No refunds will be offered for outages, closures, or other consequences of the natural setting.

✍️ Short-Term Rental Agreement

We require a signed short-term rental agreement from all guests within 48 hours of booking. The agreement has the same terms as those listed on Airbnb, so there are no surprises, new terms, or anything like that. A link to our secure online portal will be sent to you automatically upon booking.

🆔 ID Verification

Unfortunately, fraud is a growing problem in the short-term rental industry. To keep everyone safe, we require identity verification from all our guests when they book. The process is quick—we need to see an ID (like a driver's license or passport) and a selfie to satisfy our requirements. A link to our secure verification portal will be sent to you after booking. Verification must be completed within 48 hours, or the booking may be subject to cancellation.

🚫 Age Restriction

We require the primary renter to be at least 25 years of age at the time of booking.

🔒 Security Deposit

We believe in stocking the chalet with nice things for guests to enjoy. To keep things nice for everyone, a $500 security deposit will be collected 24 hours before your stay and normally be returned to you within 7 days of your departure. However, if there is damage to the property, we may hold the deposit for up to 60 days in order to obtain repair/replacement quotes from our partners.

❤️‍🩹 Damage

We are Airbnb guests as well as hosts, and we get it—sometimes things break. It’s ok, but please let us know before you leave so we can begin working on a solution. We and the guests coming next thank you.

🚭 Smoking

Smoking is allowed only on the deck—no smoking in the house whatsoever. Please use the ashtray and be mindful of fire risk. Smoking indoors or littering cigarette butts will result in a cleaning fee of $300 or more.

🧯 Fire Safety

Fire risk is extremely high in Tahoe. This is no joke: you will likely see signs along the road advising you to know your evacuation route. We provide a propane grill for your use. By local ordinance, there are absolutely no charcoal grills and no campfires allowed. Do not light candles—other than birthday candles, if it's someone's birthday. (We're not the grinch, just appropriately terrified of wildfires!) No fireworks, and no discharging of firearms on the property.

🗑️ Garbage

Our trash cans are inside the bear boxes in front of the chalet. Garbage is collected weekly, so there is generally ample space for quite a bit of garbage. Trash is collected on Mondays, and you are permitted to leave bagged garbage just outside the bear box at 7:00 AM on Monday for collection. At no other time is it permitted to leave garbage outside the bear box. On departure, all trash must fit inside the bear boxes or be removed by the guest when they leave. Failure to remove excess trash will result in a garbage removal fee of $200 per bag of garbage.

🐻 Bears

Bears are frequently seen in the area, and they generally pose no danger. DO NOT get between a mama and her (adorable) cubs, but other than that, they're most likely going to want nothing to do with you. Bears are smart, and the track record with bears and humans is sadly not on the bears' side. If you see one, please respect that this is a beautiful, wild animal, that you are lucky to witness it going about its business, and leave it there.

Bears are killed by the game warden when they become more comfortable around humans and come around (or into) houses looking for food. To keep the bears from relying on humans for food, use the bear-proof garbage can when you take out the trash.

Please remove all food and scented toiletries from parked cars to prevent damage and keep the bears safe from harm. Also, locking your car doors will prevent bears from opening them (yes, they all know how). More importantly, it will prevent bears from becoming trapped in your car and causing damage to the car or bear.

💤 Quiet Hours

The chalet is in a quiet community, and our neighbors are year-round residents with young children. Quiet hours are from 9:00 pm to 8:00 am. No loud music, parties, or disruptive behavior. No events.

🥾 Shoes

Shoes off in the house, please. You may leave them on one of the shoe racks in the entryway.

♿️ Service Animals

Service animals are permitted, and we are not required to be informed until after booking. If you book a stay and plan to bring a service animal, please let us know: 1) whether the member of your party requires their service animal because of a disability, and 2) what work or task the service animal has been trained to perform.

Please review Airbnb’s policy on service animals: https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/1869

⚠️ Failure to Comply

This cabin is special to us, and we are very serious about our rules. Anyone violating our house rules is subject to immediate eviction from the property with no refunds, as well as additional penalties like cleaning fees, legal action, etc. Do not risk your vacation, and familiarize yourself with Airbnb’s terms of service: https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/2908
